Last of our many visits to Craft LA I'm afraid. Saw an announcement on Instagram today that their last dinner service will be Thanksgiving day, 5 days from now. We have always loved coming here. Great food that's always consistent, beautiful venue, great service, and relatively quiet so it's not a struggle to carry on a conversation. We will miss you Craft.
We had visited one of the Craft restaurants before (Craftsteak in Las Vegas, which was a TEN) so we were excited to try this spot in Los Angeles, but unfortunately were a little bit let down. Craft is located within a small business park with a few tall skyscrapers around it. The decor is very modern and sleek, bordering on making the ambiance a little bit cold. Our server was a little dismissive of our questions and requests, which was a tad disheartening but we were determined to let the food do the talking. We were seated quickly and ordered the bread service. It came warm and toasty, so that was satisfying and started the meal off on a good note. For our starter we chose the Pork Belly, which was super tender and flavorful, and accompanied by some greens and crispy white Thai noodles. For our shareable sides, we had the chantenay carrots and Yukon gold potato puree. Both were delicious, with the potatoes being super creamy and savory, and the carrots being spiced and a little sweet. To both have a little variety, we shared two main dishes. One of us ordered the Columbia River Salmon, which came atop a delicious simmering broth and was accompanied by some steamed broccolini bits. It was a tad on the small size for a salmon dish. We also had the wagyu ribeye, which arrived sliced in a cast iron pan, with some greens on the side (I think they may have been chopped brussels sprouts?). The little wagyu medallions were so scrumptious and melted right in your mouth with barely any chewing! So the food did speak for itself as being outstanding, but the cold atmosphere and dismissive service put a slight damper on our experience.
Dined here on a Wednesday night. Atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated and service was superb. We enjoyed our Prospect cocktails. As already well noted, the Spanish octopus is a must try for a first course and Hen of the Wood mushrooms for a flavorful and delicious side. The only hiccup to the dinner was the duck confit leg. Incredibly salty - completely inedible. Luckily the chocolate fudge tart was an excellent closer and lifted the overall dining experience back up.
We came here last weekend to celebrate our daughter's 40th birthday. The was a memorable experience but not everything went so well. Very nice contemporary ambiance. First the GOOD: *Great service and attention from everyone we encountered, from the personalized menu to the host in front! *Most of us don't eat SPANISH OCTOPUS, but the waiter recommended this, and we were not disappointed - best item of the day - we ALL agreed - you must try it! *Great GUNDAGAI LAMB - it was SO GOOD - fall-off-the-bone tender with great deep flavor. *The HALF JIDORI CHICKEN was excellent as well - very tender. *The HEN OF THE WOODS mushrooms were cooked to perfection as well. *Fantastic RUSSIAN BANANA potatoes - moist and nicely seasoned. *BREAD SERVICE was excellent. Just OK: *GRATIN POTATOES had NO FLAVOR whatsoever - nicely cooked, but no seasoning at all. *The LOBSTER RISOTTO was a complete rip-off, even for an expensive place like this. 1 cup of risotto with maybe 15 grams of lobster. Not good. *All desserts we tried were just OK, except the ice cream. Disappointing: *WAGYU RIBEYE was very chewy. I am sure that if Tom C. tried it, he would have been disappointed. *BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP was dry and under-seasoned. Also - we ordered BAJA SWORDFISH, but it never came out to the table (there was so much food on the table already, we didn't notice right away) - they messed up. So - they took it off the bill and comp 'ed our desserts - a nice gesture. So - overall 4 stars - I just recommend staying away from the beef and pork!
I cannot get over out amazing Craft has been. We hadn't been in 6 or 7 years, went in February '23 and loved it. We had to go back, so went again in May '23. All five of us (grandparents on down to a 7 year old) leave saying, "that was incredible". Everything. The service and food are both so polished and elevated without being pretentious. This is our family's place. We love it.
EPIC EXPERIENCE. Where to begin? well... from the top, before even walking through the front door we were greeted and welcomed, as though we were expected (we were expected, he even knew our name)! Such a sweet and attentive guy. When you first experience that, you wonder if it'll change as you move on to the next person... nope! We walked past the beautiful bar, was greeted by the bartender. We sat at our table, and received incredible service from start to finish. This place felt like home. Tasted like home cooking. I can't wait to come back. Such a beautiful evening and looking forward to another experience. P.s. they are super vegan friendly! Not everything on their menu is vegan but they can make anything on their menu vegan to order. Shout out to Scott. Incredible guy and he wasn't even assigned to be the server at our table.
Five stars from me! We came here to celebrate my husbands birthday because we're big fans of Top Chef. I noted in my reservation that we were here for his birthday and right away the host wished him a happy birthday. He sat us down and handed us personalized menus that said happy birthday. And at the end of the dinner they gave him a chocolate cake and a candle to blow out. The service was amazing to say the least! And the food was even better! We started with the little gem salad. It was massive. And so good. Then we got the halibut and bolognese. The halibut was cooked perfectly and was bursting with umami. The bolognese was the best I ever had. All in all, it was a great experience and the perfect place for a celebration. Parking was super easy in the garage. They validate your ticket at the host stand.
I am an event coordinator and had an event at the Craft last week. Truly a phenomenal experience. The guests had family style food and loved every dish. I had the scallops and Hen of the Woods mushrooms - obsessed! 100% recommend a half order of the mushrooms if you're eating them by yourself! Besides the food, the staff was beyond wonderful. They helped with all the event changes and supplied top notch service. Truly an incredible group. Shout out to the team who took care of us that night: Jason, José, Alex, Sergio, and Jim!! Thank you all so much!
